 2017 Preview

Elmore County completed the 2016 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Elmore County finished sixth in Class 4A region three with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The defense allowed a team record 352 points last season. The Panthers have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2011 season and would love to end that streak this year.

Elmore County struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 35.2 points a game.

Since 2010, Elmore County has gone a combined 35-37. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 35th in Class 4A over the past seven seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Elmore County has managed to compile a record of 126-150. Their 46.0% winning percentage ranks 38th in Class 4A and 227th in the AHSAA.

The Panthers are led by head coach Norman Dean who is entering his thirteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 75-56 over the past twelve seasons at Elmore County. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have won one region crown with Coach Dean.

Coach Dean's overall record as a head football coach in twelve season stands at 75-56 (57.3%).

The Elmore County Panthers will play in Class 4A region three during the 2017 season. The Panthers have one of the toughest schedules in Class 4A. Their opponents had a combined record of 64-50 last season. That ranks 9th in Class 4A and 62nd in the AHSAA.

It will be an uphill battle for the Panthers if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region three this season.

Junior D.J. Patrick returns after rushing for 1,339 yards on 175 carries and scoring 11 touchdowns.

The Panthers open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Montgomery Academy on Friday, August 25 at McLemore Field. Last year the Montgomery Academy Eagles finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in second place in Class 3A region three. The Eagles lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Oakman by a score of 21-0.

Elmore County and Montgomery Academy have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 1-3-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2016 with Elmore County winning by a score of 35-28.
